We don't need this PPA repository because the packages we have also in the "normal" repositories. The most PPAs have no new packages into, only any are usable... What a pity!
@Oscar - sure we need it, that is if you want to run current versions. If you want to stay 5 or 10 minor (or major) releases behind, don't use it. But some of us do. Here is an example of "blender" package version discrepancy:
root@newlife:~/work# apt-cache show blender | grep -i -e 'version'
Version: 2.49.2~dfsg-2ubuntu4
Version: 2.56.1-beta-svn34076-1~ppa1~natty1
2.49.2 is available in main repository, notice it is 7 versions behind.
